I find joy in making things and can often be heard saying, “I could make that.” And so, I do!
My wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery is inspired by my love the ocean, the patina of vintage tin toys, flowers, organic shapes and simple graphics. Some view my pieces as art, but they are made for everyday use.
Each piece starts with an idea and a lump of clay. Sometimes the process is dictated by me and other times the clay decides. My approach means fingerprints may be seen and the slight variations in shapes, colours and patterns are what make each hand-crafted piece imperfectly perfect!
I grew up in a family where creativity was given free rein, and craft supplies were never in short supply. My interest in pottery began at the age of 9 when I first sat at a pottery wheel. I dabbled in it while raising my family and working. Largely self-taught and nearly half a century later, I have plenty of time to devote to my craft.
I’m fortunate to have a cottage studio in Muskoka and studio space in Toronto, so I’m never far from my pots and almost always have a splash or two of muddy clay on me!
