Inspired by Chinese Lantern flowers in my garden the plates are are made using a mono printing technique. The designs are painted on newsprint in reverse order from foreground to background and transferred at just the right moment to the surface of the wet, red clay. From there the dish is shaped and finished. I love the unstructured, worn texture caused by the imprint of the wet paper on clay. No two pieces are ever the same.
Each plate, with undulating edges, is handmade using red stoneware glazed with a clear, food-safe gloss finish. Base is unglazed. Measures: 4.75 x 4.75 x .75″ Subtle variations in shapes, colours and patterns are celebrated features of a hand made item.
